The last nine Nakshatras from Moola on, belong to the Sattwa or Sattwic Guna and the Rashis Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius and Pisces, the Grahas, Sun, Moon and Jupiter are Sattwic.
The Gunas are the Three Essential Elements of nature in Vedic Astrology, it keeps us attracted and conecting with nature. There is no good or bad guna they just are. Just like day and night, one is neither good neither bad. The entire spiritual realm relies on these gunas to exist and to understand God.. These ellements exist in nature, since astrollogy is derived from nature they become part of this Divine Science.
Sattwa stands for something which is pure, untouchable, unchangeable and transparent as a glass of water. This guna can be related to the supreme being Vishnu. The pure form of existence.This guna shows us the world as is, what is the true nature of this world and how we must drink the clear water to understand it. This guna is not God’s favorite guna. It just simply shows us God in it’s purest form and the most real. This is the light bulb which shows exactly what’s in the room regardless of the fact the room might be dirty, filthy or immaculate.
Moola ruled by Ketu and Nirriti, represented by a male Dog;
It is located between zero degree and 13º20′ of Sargitarius (Dhanu), its deity is Nirriti.
Its symbol is Roots or Lion’s Tail
Her Yoga Tara is at 3º of Sargitarius, her Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, and her Caste is Butcher.
Nirriti is the goddess of destruction, who brings creation after destruction, is written as having locks of gold, is dark and connected to the underworld, very similar to the goddess Kali. In the creation myth, she came from the anus of Brahma and rules the southeast direction. There are variations of stories which say that she accompanied Shiva in the destruction of Daksha’s Yagna.
Kali is the fierce form of the goddess Durga who stopped her destruction only after Shiva had surrendered. Nirriti is still connected with the goddess Dhumavati of the ten Mahavidyas and Alakshmi, goddess of poverty. She is also connected with Lakshami’s elder sister, also called Jyestha. Alakshmi usually visits Jyestha every Saturday at the Pipal tree and accompanies her back home everyone who has respect to Pipal on Saturday.
Kali is connected to the black hole that sucks the center of the galaxy, and her connection to Shiva points to the Moola-Ardra axis.
Purva Ashada ruled by Venus and Apah, represented by a male Monkey;
It is located between 13º20′ and 26º40′ of Sargitarius (Dhanu), its deity is Apah.
Its symbol is a circular Basket or Elephant’s Tusk.
His Yoga Tara is at 11º of Sargitarius, his Padas are: 1 – Leo, 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, and his Caste is Manushya (human).
Apah is the cosmic waters, wife of Varuna, the god of the Cosmic Ocean. She brings the waters that inspire all humanity.
Purva Ashada is connected with the elephant-headed god, Ganesha, who broke his tusk to write the Mahabarata. Vanaras or the Monkeys helped Rama search for Sita. Hanuman created Ramayan’s alternative version of Sage Valmike who was happy and regretful after reading that version. Hanuman was going to throw Sage on the back of the book and into the ocean, and Sage said he would be reborn as Hanuman’s devotee and retell the Ramayan in plain words.
Uttara Ashada ruled by Sun and Viswadevas, represented by a male Mangusto;
It is a transitional Nakshatra as it is situated between 26º40′ of Sargittarius (Dhanu) and 10º of Capricorn (Makara), its deity is Viswadevas.
Its symbol is Elephant’s Tusk.
His Yoga Tara is at 18º of Capricorn, his Padas are: 1 – Sargitarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and his caste is Kshatriya (warrior).
Viswadevas are the Universal Gods who have the power to give undefeated victory, they deal with universal moral principles, the qualities ruled by them are Divinity, Truth, Willpower, Time, Desire, Ability, Tolerance, Ancestry, Abundance, and Finishing, Peak.
Lord Ganesha still connects with this Nakshatra by being the one in charge of Karma.
Lord Krishna showed his true form Viswa to Arjuna when he asked, he also showed the entire Universe and the gods ruling the Universe as one – Lord Krishna.
The mongoose still connects with Lord Kubera who carries the mongoose and rules the north direction connected with Mercury.
Ambimanyu, Arjuna’s son, connects with the last pada of this Nakshatra Abhijeet, the one who broke the Chakravyooha formation in the Mahabarata and ended up dying, his sons were the only ones from the Pandava Clan who survived.
Sravana ruled by Moon and Vamana, represented by a female Monkey
It is located between 10° and 23°20′ of Capricorn (Makara), its deity is Vamana.
Its symbol is the Three Steps, Trident
Its Yoga Tara is at 8º of Capricorn, its Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, and its Caste is Mleccha (Exiled).
Vamana is the avatar of Vishnu associated with the planet Jupiter.
Sravana is the birth star of the goddess of wisdom Saraswati who blesses with the power of truth in words. Vamana was born of the mother Aditi to destroy the unequal desire of the demon of possessing the world, he would make a Yajna that would conquer the world.
The dwarf Brahmin went to Mahabali with an Umbrella and asked for three steps of earth. Shukracharya, Mahabali’s guru, warned him about Vamana and blocked the water coming out of the water pot, but Vishnu unblocked it using a straw and Mahabali granted the land. With the first two steps Vishnu conquered heaven and earth and Vamana asked for the third step in which Mahabali offered his head for the place of the third step, Vishnu blessed him and said he would become Indra in the next story and allowed him to see his people during the flower festival or Onam in Kerala.
Dhanishta ruled by Mars and Ashtavasus, represented by a female Lion
It is a transitional Nakshatra as it is situated between 26º40′ of Capricorn (Makara) and 6º40′ of Aquarius , its deity is Ashtavasus.
Its symbol is a drum and flute.
His Yoga Tara is at 23º of Capricorn, his Padas are: 1 – Leo, 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, and his Caste is farmer, servant.
Ashtavasus, 8 vasus means ray of light: Apah (water); Dhruva (polar star); Dhara (earth); Anila (and); Soma (Moon), Anala / Pauaka (fire), Pratyusha (The dawn), Prabhasa (Splendor). These are the gods of abundance who bring prosperity, they are also connected to the 8 directions of space, Narasinha Avatar is one of the 8 mothers or Ashta.
Matrika, could shake her hand and cause chaos among the stars. She was born to pacify Narasimha Avatar of Vishnu connected to Mars who was born to protect her devotee Prahalada from the demon Hiranya Kashipu.
Bheeshman is a central character in the Mahabarata who may be connected to this Nakshatra as he took a vow of celibacy for life and could not be defeated in battle, he was an Ashtavasu.
Prabhasa stole a divine cow inspired by his wife and with the help of his brothers, he was cursed to be born on earth as a mortal by Vasishta. Then, the River Goddess Ganga promised to help them, she became the wife of King Shantanu, gave birth to the seven Ashtavasus who were killed in the River Ganges, when the eighth was born, Shantanu did not allow it, so Prabhasa became Bheeshman who in death by a thousand arrows warned Vishnu Sahasranama of Yudhisthira’s guilt for taking part in the Mahabarata which caused death and destruction. Bheeshma could choose the time of his death, when the Sun would enter Uttarayana.
Satabisha ruled by Rahu and Varuna, represented by a female Horse
It is located between 6º40′ and 20º of Aquarius (Kumbha), its deity is Varuna.
Its symbol is an empty circle.
His Yoga Tara is at 18º of Aquarius, his Padas are: 1- Sargitarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and his Caste is Butcher.
Varuna is one of the Adityas, god of cosmic laws. He rules the mysteries and the waters of the underworld. He is associated with hidden abilities, secrets, and destiny. He rules the west direction, god of the underworld and of healing. He has a thousand eyes, and the stars are his eyes. It is connected to the movement of the Sun in the southern hemisphere, carries the nectar of immortality Amrit, and also has the ability to give life.
Varuna and Mitra are invoked together, Varuna is considered the god of the Black or nocturnal Sun. He rides the crocodile Makara, Vedas call him Asura.
Sage Agastya, born of Mitra-Varuna, drank the entire ocean to find the demon Kalakeya devastating the nights. Varuna cursed his father Kasyapa and his mother Diti Aditi for stealing a cow for Yajena. His father was born with Krishna’s father Vasudeva and his mother as Rohini.
Indra seems to have usurped the power to be king from Varuna, using Yama to do so.
Purva Bhadrapada ruled by Jupiter and Aja Ekapada, represented by a male Lion
It is a transitional Nakshatra as it is situated between 20° Aquarius (Kumbha) and 3°20′ Pisces (Meena), its deity is Aja Ekapada.
His symbol is a man with two faces, two swords.
His Yoga Tara is at 29º Aquarius, his Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, and his Caste is Brahmin (priest).
Aja Ekapada is “the one-footed one” “the unburnable one”. He is one of the Rudras and a fire dragon. It is considered in its snake form, it is the mount of Lord Agni.
It is connected with storms by the Rudras and with the Maruts, the wind gods. The Unicorn is also connected, it is the fire of funeral rituals and that purifies the soul. It connects with thunder, storms, black magic, and extreme occult groups.
The lion connects it with the goddess Durga who killed the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasur. The lion is still used as a sign of the Sun and extreme devotion. God Narasimba, half man, half lion, avatar of Vishnu to protect his devotee Prahlad who was Mahabali’s grandfather and had his father killed under specific circumstances, conditions for him to nullify the blessing he had from Brahma.
Uttara Bhadrapada ruled by Saturn and Ahir Budnya, represented by a Cow
It is located between 3º20′ and 16º40′ of Pisces(Meena), its deity is Ahir Budnya.
Its symbol is the Snake from the bottom of the ocean.
His Yoga Tara is at 15º of Pisces, his Padas are: 1 – Leo; 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, and his Caste is Kshatriya (Warrior).
Ahir Budnya is a water dragon that sleeps at the bottom of the ocean, is one of the 11 Rudras, is the god of fertility and Kundalini, son of Vishwakarma, celestial architect.
Goddess Lakshami who is always at the feet of Vishnu, still connects with this Nakshatra.
Divine cow Kamadhenu, mother of cows and who fulfills wishes.
Sage Narada apasiguated an argument between who was greater Lakshami or Saturn, saying it was more for diplomacy saying that when Lakshami came prosperity also, when Sarturn left prosperity also.
Revati ruled by Mercury and Pushan, represented by a female Elephant
It is located between 16º40′ and 30º of Pisces, its deity is Pushan.
Its symbol is drums, a pair of fishes.
Its Yoga Tara is at 26º of Pisces, its Padas are: 1 – Sargitarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and its Caste is Shudra (worker).
Pushan is one of the 12 Adityas, protector of flocks and herds, of travelers, ruler of the roads, affinity with animals, deity of lost things and animals. He is the final ferryman who takes souls to Yama in nitherworld heaven. Protector of Wayfarers and their belongings (travelers), he is the god of encounters.
Princess Revati was the wife of Lord Bolaram. Revati and her father went to Brahma in his paradise, Brahma said that because they went there, then time had changed the Yogas, and the only possible husband for Revati was Balaram who used his plow to make Revati smaller.
