Rajas: Nakshatras, Grahas and Rashis

The first nine Nakshatras belong to the Raja or Rajassic Guna and the Rashis Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Libra, the Grahas, Venus and Mercury are Rajassic.
The Gunas are the Three Essential Elements of nature in Vedic Astrology, it keeps us attracted and conecting with nature. There is no good or bad guna they just are. Just like day and night, one is neither good neither bad. The entire spiritual realm relies on these gunas to exist and to understand God.. These elements exist in nature, since astrology is derived from nature they become part of this Divine Science.
Rajas is the quality of Bhrama. Bhrama is the creator of physical universe. The quality of Rajas works on the same plain. It’s all about creation, creativity and achieving goals. This is a outward guna which is about expanding one’s horizon and expanding creation around them. This guna brings about tendency to build things which can be enjoyed by others. A tree is a Sattwa existence of God. It is what it is, it cannot be a mountain, lake or river. Tree is a tree. The Rajas guna of tree is to give shade, fruits for appetite and to climb it as a way to be active and adventure seeking. Enjoyment is not evil, it’s not bad, it’s one of the nature of what everything is.

Ashiwini ruled by Ketu and Kumars, represented by a male Horse;

It is located from zero degrees to 13°,20′ of Aries (Mesha), its deity are the Ashwini Kumars healers with a horse head. They may have an authoritarian quality but they want to help, they are two different twins, one is narcissistic, there is a scission, at the same time they want to help, they want to dominate.

Their symbol is the head of a horse.

Their Yoga Tara is between 10° and 13° or 8° – 15°, their Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, they belong to the Vaishya (Merchant) Caste. So, even if the native is from Bharani, between the 13° and 14° will also have the qualities of Ashiwini.

Ashiwini has to do with speed, the native will be very fond of cars, horses, helicopters, trains, anything that moves fast.

The Ashiwini Kumars Devas and Nasatya were born from Sanjana and were doctors and farmers and agriculturists.

It is located between 13°,20′ and 26°,40′ of Aries (Mesha). Its deity is Yama, the god of death.

Surya blessed Yama as being the god of justice and dharma and god of death to guide humans to heaven. Chitra Gupta was Yama’s assistant to record the good and bad deeds of each person.

His symbol is a Uterus.

His Yoga Tara is at 24°, his Padas are: 1 – Leo, 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, they belong to the Mleccha Caste (Banned, Outcast, Outcast).

Krittika ruled by Sun and Agni, represented by a female Goat;

It is a transitional Nakshatra as it is situated between 26°,40′ Aries (Mesha) and 10° Taurus (Vrishabha) with its first Pada in Aries. Its deity is Agni, god of fire, one of the ancient Hindu gods.

His symbol is a razor and scissors.

His Yoga tara is at 6° of Taurus, his Padas are: 1 – Sagittarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and belong to the Brahmin Caste (Priest).

Agni has two heads, one contemplating the world of men and the other the world of gods, receiving human prayers and taking them to the gods, he is one of the most venerated gods and accompanies Indra in battles against demons. It is said that he was cursed with an endless lust after looking at the 7 wives of the Rishis (Saptarishis) naked.

Another deity is Karthik, commander of the devas and younger brother of Ganesha.

The gods asked Kamadeva to help them defeat the demon Tarakasur, as only a son of Shiva could defeat him. So, while Shiva was having love with Parvati, his sperm sneezed, Agni caught it and took it to the Ganges River where Karthik was born.

Then the 6 sisters of Krittika of the Pleiades (constellation of this Nakshatra), took care of Karthik as their son which had 6 heads, the spear is his weapon and the Peacock hill is his chariot, he has two wives Ualli and Devasena. Karthik, also known as Skanda, personally taught his father Shiva about the knowledge of AUM.

Rohini ruled by Moon and Bhrama, represented by a male Snake;

It is located between 10° and 23°20′ of Taurus (Vrishabha), its deity is Prajapati or Brahma.

Its symbol is an Ox, Cart or Chariot.

His Yoga Tara is at 15° of Taurus, his Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, and belong to the Shudra Caste (Worker).

Prajapati, after raising his daughter Dawn (Saraswati), turned into a deer and tried to rape her, in the form of a Doe, to reproduce. The gods were angry and created a being named Rudra which means “screamer”, he ripped off one of Prajapati’s heads and then replaced it with the head of a deer.

Rohini is also connected to Krishna, Vishnu’s avatar associated with the moon. His birth took place in a prison, as his father kept him hidden from his evil uncle who was later defeated by Krishna.

Rohini was also Soma’s favorite wife and the target of Jyesta’s envy that caused the curse to the Moon by his father-in-law Daksha, Soma resorted to the Somnath Temple to have Shiva’s blessing for him to regain his splendor partially, having phases, which is why the phases of the Moon appeared.

Mrigashira ruled by Mars and Soma, represented by a female Snake;

It is a transitional Nakshatra, between 23°20′ of Taurus (Vrishabha) and 6°40′ of Gemini (Mithuna), with its first two Padas in Taurus, its deity is Soma, the Moon god.

His symbol is an Antelope’s head.

His Yoga Tara is at 27° of Taurus, his Padas are: 1 – Leo, 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, and his Caste is farmers, servants.

Soma had sex with Tara, wife of the Guru of the Gods Brihaspathi, so Tara became pregnant with Buddha (Mercury). Brihaspathi, with the help of the devas, went to war against Soma, who was supported by Shukracharya, Guru of the demons. Eventually, Brihaspathi adopted Buddha, as he was impressed by his intelligence, ending the war.

There is also the story of the fire ritual “Yagna”, to which Shiva, husband of Sati, daughter of Daksha (the same one who cursed the moon) was not invited among the gods. After Sati threw herself into the fire, the gods pacified Shiva who restored Daksha to life by placing a deer’s head on him.

Sita, wife of Rama, avatar of Vishnu connected with the Sun, was deceived by a golden deer, which was actually a demon that took Sita from Rama, to be kidnapped by the demon King Ravana. This golden deer convinced Sita to cross a line of defense left by the Lakshma guru. Eventually, Rama defeated Ravan in Lanka in the epic story of Ramayan.

Ardra ruled by Rahu and Rudra, represented by a female Dog;

It is located between 6°40′ and 20° of Gemini (Mithuna), its deity is Rudra.

Its symbol is a teardrop, diamond or skull.

His Yoga Tara is at 5° Gemini, his Padas are: 1 – Sagittarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and his caste is Butcher.

His deity, Rudra, is the god of destruction, in the scriptures, he is even referred to as a “healer”, a doctor, a curator, and was mentioned in Rohini, where the gods abandoned him after he cut off Prajapati’s head and named him that. Rudra is still the ancient and fierce form of the god Shiva.

When there was a fierce disturbance of the oceans between the Devas and the Asuras (demons), what came out was the Halahal poison that only Shiva could take, and Parvati held his neck and it turned blue and his body was not polluted as a result. Parvati was his second wife and he came to be called Neel Kanta, or “the one with the blue throat.

Punarvasu ruled by Jupiter and Aditi, represented by a female Cat;

It is a transitional Nakshatra as it is situated between 20° of Gemini (Mithuna) and 3°20′ of Cancer (Karka), its deity is Aditi.

Her symbol is a Bow with Bag of Arrows.

His Yoga Tara is 21° and 26° Gemini, his Padas are: 1 – Aries, 2 – Taurus, 3 – Gemini, 4 – Cancer, and his Caste is Vaishya (Merchant).

Aditi, wife of Kashyapa is the mother of the Adityas, the Sun gods, mother also of the god Asht Vasus. She is the goddess of the earth that brings prosperity and abundance, she is the vast space, she is mentioned in the Rig Vedas as a repeating pattern or fractal, from Daksha came Aditi, from Aditi came Daksha.

Aditi is also the mother of Vamana, Vishnu’s avatar connected to Jupiter, the Dwarf Brahmin who was born to defeat the demon king Mahabali by asking him for 3 feet (spaces) of earth.

Punarvasu is the Nakshatra of Lord Rama, his brother Lakshaman has the Nakshatra of Ashlesha.

Lord Rama was exiled from his land by his stepmother Kaikeyi, who wished to give his land Ayodhya to her son Bharat. While in exile, his wife Sita was kidnapped and with the help of Hanumam and the Monkey army, he defeated the demon Ravana, and returned to Ayodya and restored order and Dharma by Bharath Varsha. He also established Rameswarama Jyorti Linga in Tamil Nado, a famous place for pilgrimage and devotion to Shiva.

Pushya ruled by Saturn and Brihaspati, represented by a male Goat;

It is located between 3°20′ and 16°40′ Cancer (Karka), its deity is Brihaspati.

Its symbol is the Uber of a Cow or a flower.

His Yoga Tara is 15° of Cancer, his Padas are: 1 – Leo, 2 – Virgo, 3 – Libra, 4 – Scorpio, and his Caste is Kshatriya (Warrior).

Brihaspati is the Guru of the gods and the lord of discourses and sacred prayers, teacher of Jyotish and other Vedic sciences. He was born of Sage Angiras and his wife Shraddha, and when he was a student, his rival was Shukracharya or the planet Venus. Angiras showed favoritism for his son and Shukracharya came to consider Brihaspati an enemy.

Brihaspati ignored his wife Tara who became involved with Chandra who made her pregnant.

Ashlesha ruled by Mercury and Nagas, represented by a male Cat;

It is located between 16°40′ and 30° Cancer (Karka), its deity are the Nagas.

Its symbol is the coiled serpent.

Its Yoga Tara is at 18° of Cancer, its Padas are: 1 – Sagittarius, 2 – Capricorn, 3 – Aquarius, 4 – Pisces, and its Caste is Mleccha (Banned, Outcast, Outcast).

Nagas are divine serpents, mystical healers, and possess knowledge of the occult sciences and vast wealth. Vishnu himself becomes an Ananta Shesha Vasuki, a serpent that pierced the ocean, or served as a rope for turning the Cosmic Ocean to obtain Amrit.

Sage Kashyapa’s daughters.

Mother Kadru who made a bet with Vinata, mother of Garuda and Aruna.

Chariot gods, drivers of the Sun over the color of the Ucchaishravas’ tail. In that bet, Vinata said the tail was White, so Kadru told his sons the Nagas to cover the tail to make it look black. So, after losing the bet, Vinata and his sons are made slaves. Then the serpents said that to free Garuda, he would need to steal Indra’s Amrit elixir of immortality.

Garuda convinced Indra that he could take back the Amrit once he had given it to the Nagas, that there would be a win-win situation. So, Indra accepted, and, when the Nagas had the Amrit, then Indra took it back. A few drops of Amrit fell to the ground and the Nagas tried to lick it off. In this way, the sharp leaves of grass are the reason for the Nagas having their tongues cut in half. There are Nagas festivals when the Moon transits Ashlesha.
